Before spending money on AI training, it’s worth asking: what are you actually paying for? To be brutally honest, many “AI for lawyers” courses repackage basic prompting tips you could learn in an afternoon, or worse, are vendor demos dressed up as education.
Be wary of courses tied to a specific paid tool (check for hidden sales pitches); trainers with no legal background who don’t understand privilege, confidentiality, or professional conduct rules; anything promising AI will “replace” research or drafting rather than assist it.
What’s worth learning properly may be your firm’s confidentiality obligations when inputting client data into AI tools; how to catch hallucinated case law before it reaches a filing; your jurisdiction’s ethical guidance on AI use.
You can self-teach basic prompting, drafting summaries, general tool familiarity cheaply, through practice.
