I wrote a short story that is an attempt to write fiction about those people who are involved in insurance fraud as perpetrators, investigators, insurance company investigators and insurance lawyers.

When those who profit from insurance fraud argue over who gets the money they sometimes either threaten or actually act violently.

The story begins with:

As one famous person once said, “no good deed goes unpunished.” My good deed for myself, walking every day to keep my health after I became an octogenarian, was about to be shattered. On one nice spring day as I walked under the Inglewood avenue underpass my day became dismal. There, on the shelf above the bike path, was one of what I believed was one the regular homeless men laying still on a cardboard box that kept out some of the cold from the concrete on which he slept. That was not unusual. What was unusual was that there was a knife sticking out of his back and a small, sticky stream of reddish brown liquid streamed down from the knife to stain the cardboard where he lay.

Insurance Fraud, much to the surprise of the public and local police, is a violent crime.
