This introduction describes the Direct Democracy Symposium, held at the University of Nebraska College of Law on November 13, 2021. It summarizes four panels of presenters who discussed the theoretical underpinnings of direct democracy provisions, the evolution of substantive restrictions on the initiative process, implementational oversight of those restrictions, and practical considerations that attend the current use of the initiative process in Nebraska.
