UNEP FI draft guidance document – reporting on the principles for responsible banking

By Simon Lovegrove (UK) on December 4, 2020

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector to mobilize private sector finance for sustainable development. The Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) are a unique framework for ensuring that signatory banks’ strategy and practice align with the vision society has set out for its future in the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement. Currently, 199 banks have signed up to the PRB which provide a framework for a sustainable banking system.

On 2 December 2020, the UNEP FI published for consultation a draft guidance document concerning reporting on the PRB. The guidance document is intended to provide guidance on:

  • The PRB reporting requirements, and how to report on them.
  • How to complete the reporting and self-assessment template.
  • How to integrate reporting with other frameworks.

The deadline for comments on the draft guidance document is 29 January 2021.
