The 5K Run/Walk, which celebrated its 29th anniversary, was a benefit for the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation. Attorneys Samantha Kaplan, Lejla Alibasic, Alexa Buechler, Meagan Downes, Maheen Husain, and Madelyn Bissing (future attorney) from MBLB’s Chicago office were among the 3,500 runners who competed in the race.

Chicago Volunteer Legal Services

With more than 60 years of experience, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services is the first and pre-eminent pro bono civil legal aid provider in Chicago. CVLS is comprised of 2,300+ volunteer attorneys who donate free services to thousands of low-income Chicagoans annually.

MBLB’s Chicago Office

Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett is one of a handful of law firms in the nation known for its experience and expertise in litigating claims arising under the Defense Base Act (DBA).

In October 2025, MBLB opened an office in Chicago with three attorneys—Samantha Kaplan, Lejla Alibasic and Alexa Buechler—to help the firm expand its influence and reach in this practice area.

Samantha, who has years of experience handling DBA claims, oversees the office. Meagan Downes and Maheen Husain recently joined the firm. Madelyn Bissing began working with MBLB in August as a law clerk as she waits for her Illinois Bar results October.
