The sentencing of an attorney involved in accident stagings in Louisiana has been delayed again. Attorney Danny Patrick Keating’s sentencing, which was to come on March 13, 2025, is now set for October 9, 2025. Keating pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Mail Fraud and Wire Fraud on June 17, 2021. He admitted to conspiring with multiple others, including Damian Labeaud, to stage vehicle collisions and make fraudulent insurance claims. Labeaud had previously pled guilty on August 6, 2020, admitting that he was a “slammer,” a person who would intentionally cause accidents with tractor trailers, exit the vehicle, and flee the scene.
Since Keating’s original guilty plea almost four years ago, his sentencing has been postponed multiple times. This indicates that his role in shoring up cases against other individuals is likely not yet complete. Federal investigators and prosecutors likely continue to use information provided by Keating to investigate other individuals and/or further investigations into staged accidents in South Louisiana.
This news comes after a string of other accident staging news in the past few months, including the indictments of attorney Jason Giles, attorney Venessa Motta, and former attorney Sean Alfortish. In January 2025, Ryan “Red” Harris pled guilty in connection with these prosecutions. Harris not only admitted to being a slammer, but also alleged that Alfortish paid one Leon Parker to kill Cornelius Garrison, a key federal witness.
We do not yet know what twists and turns might soon be revealed in these accident staging prosecutions. However, indications are that more will be coming in the next several months.
