Our partner Nolan Tully recently co-authored a research report, “Data-Driven Pre-Claim Programs Bend The LTCI Claims Cost Curve,” with Assured Allies. In the report the authors discuss an evidence-based program to reduce aging-related disability and help long-term care insurance (LTCI) policyholders remain independent longer.

In the report, Nolan along with Assured Allies’ Afik Gal (co-founder & president and Andy Freedman (vice president, client experience), detail further:

  • The design and engagement approach of a pre-claim program
  • The rigorous analysis performed to quantify the impact
  • Wellness program results and key drivers
  • Implications for implementation of pre-claim programs in the future
  • Regulatory compliance requirements in light of the findings and implications

The data-driven pre-claim wellness program results, the authors note, showed that the opportunity to drive positive impact within long-term care insurance blocks is massive, including an increase in functional ability leading to a 10% reduction in claims payments and strong customer satisfaction. The authors conclude that such results can only be achieved with a deep understanding of the engagement protocols and overall design that mitigate the risks of negative response, all within the regulatory guidelines.

The findings are based on an analysis of an Assured Allies pre-claim wellness program (initially launched in 2020) deployed with five long-term care carriers and involving data from more than 135,000 policyholders across three years totaling approximately 200,000 exposure years.
