Wow, Ron Wyden’s wife’s stock market prowess is on full display again. I’ve been writing for a few years now about how, during the early days of the pandemic, Nancy Bass Wyden started plunking down some bets on the mega-chip maker Nvidia. Over the years, the stock’s done quite well, but in the last week, holy cow! The shares closed on Wednesday at $305.41. Today they closed at $401.11.

Now, Wyden’s financial disclosure report for 2022, just filed a couple of weeks ago, said that the Mrs.’ Nvidia stash was worth between $500,000 and $1,000,000 at the end of last year. As the year-end close was $146.14, that’s between 3,421 and 6,843 shares. Since year-end, the stock has shot up by $254.97 a share, meaning that the Wydens have made a profit since January 1 of somewhere between $872,000 and $1,745,000. Cha ching!

Not that senators’ spouses should be playing individual stocks on the market. It’s utterly unethical. But hey, it’s a cardinal rule in Oregon that Saint Ron cannot be touched. So congratulations to him, the wily old coot. And to Nancy Pelosi’s husband, too. When last I checked, he owned even more Nvidia shares than Mrs. Dub, and some juicy options in the company to boot.
