Newest Blogs Joining the Network
With India’s massive legal sector and technological prowess, it is sure to play a meaningful role in the transformation of law and technology. But legaltech in India is still considered a “disconnected” and “unorganized” community. Indian Legal Tech aims to be the solution. The blog, an independent content platform created by Namit Oberoy in November 2019, is an online community where participants in India’s legaltech realm can come together. The blog already has momentum through its publishing of interviews with legal professionals, opportunities in Indian legaltech, and think pieces.
Global 50 law firm Goodwin Procter has brought two blogs to the LexBlog network. The first, Digital Currency + Blockchain Perspectives led by editor Grant Fondo tracks the “exciting, dynamic and growing technology” of digital currency and its impact on the finance and legal industries worldwide. The second blog, Big Molecule Watch reports on settlements, updates, regulatory issues, and breaking news in the world of biosimilars–drug products that often provide a lower-cost alternative to brand-name drugs. Both blogs have diligently reported on their respective topics since 2015, and you can follow updates from Big Molecule Watch at its Twitter feed here.
For over 50 years, the Florida-based Law offices of Daily & Toups has been dedicated exclusively to the practice of IRS tax representation. Partner Bishop Toups is the sole author of the firm’s blog and, through his frequent blogging, makes estate planning, elder law, and tax issues less intimidating. Nearly every post is broken down by a table of contents that makes processes, like standing up to the IRS, easy to understand. No question is off limits for Toups–in a FAQ post, he explains how clients can “calm down and use basic psychology,” when dealing with a difficult auditor or collector. “[Auditors/collectors] deal with hostile and untruthful citizens all day long,” he wrote. “Instead of escalating the war, offer an olive branch.”
Intellectual property firm Rothwell Figg has launched its first blog on the LexBlog platform with the Privacy Zone**. The blog is “where technology and intellectual property meet privacy,” and gives updates on privacy and data protection laws, regulations, and cases with a focus on the US, Europe and Asia. They blog has reported on high-profile cases, such as the class action lawsuit against Clearview AI for violating Illinois’ BIPA, and has raised important questions about how recent technologies might impact consumers.
Since 2017, Lawtomated has aimed to close the knowledge gap in legaltech by balancing technical language, plain English, and practical application on the blog and its social media accounts, including reddit. Aimed at both lawyers and non-lawyers, Lawtomated provides “bitesize legaltech education,” on products and methodologies, innovations and change management, law and coding, and legaltech profiles. Their posts are as entertaining as they are informative–a recent post on what BigLaw can learn from Ford vs Ferrari for instance, takes quotes and scenes from the movie to explain the “cultural and structural” problems in law.
Todd Presnell, litigation partner in Bradley’s Nashville office, authors Presnell on Privileges, which examines all types of evidentiary privileges from the accountant-client privilege, to the political-vote privilege. His incredibly comprehensive list of privilege topics guarantee that any reader, whether in the legal profession or not, will find a thought-provoking issue relevant to them. A recent post for instance, examined a case in which a Chicago lawyer sued a Connecticut blogger for defamation, raising the question of whether a blogger is a reporter.
The 9/11 attacks had devastating environmental and health effects that many are still battling today.
