As we discussed in our previous post, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) published over 200 airport facility maps last week to aid drone operators in safer operation and streamline the authorization process for commercial drone operations.
The maps depict areas and altitudes near airports where drones are permitted to operate safely.
With the maps, the FAA hopes to help drone operators improve the quality of their Part 107 waivers, and, in turn, help the FAA process the requests for waivers more efficiently and quickly. Of course, the FAA warns that these maps are only for informational purposes and do not provide FAA permission to fly drones; drone operators must still submit an online waiver application.
The FAA plans to publish additional maps every 56 days through the end of 2017, which coincides with the FAA’s preexisting 56-day aeronautical chart production schedule.
