CFPB to hold Oct. 8 forum on checking account screening policies and practices

By Barbara S. Mishkin on September 17, 2014

The CFPB has announced that it will hold a forum on checking account screening policies and practices in Washington, D.C. on October 8, 2014.

Director Cordray is slated to give remarks at the forum and there will also be presentations from consumer groups, federal and local government officials, and industry representatives.  The CFPB states that the forum will include “discussions about current bank account screening practices, the effect these practices have on consumers’ ability to acquire and use checking account products, and more generally, the availability of financial products and services that meet their needs.”  The CFPB expects the event to “inform the dialogue around how the screening system works and how to improve the availability of information and products for consumers.”

The event is open to the public, but requires a RSVP to attend.
