Takeaways from the 2013 IPCPR Conference and Trade Show

By Troutman Pepper Tobacco Practice on July 31, 2013

We enjoyed visiting with old friends and meeting new ones at the IPCPR conference and trade show in Las Vegas.

From our perspective, the talk of the show was FDA’s looming regulation of cigars. During the conference, Troutman Sanders participated in a legislative session on the potential for FDA regulation of cigars. FDA has stated that it intends to regulate cigars and other tobacco products by October of this year. However, the agency has already missed previous self-imposed deadlines. Troutman Sanders is working closely in conjunction with stakeholders to educate FDA regarding the pitfalls of regulating the premium cigar industry.

Stay tuned — if and when FDA issues the regulations, our practice will report on how the regulations may affect your business.
