RFS

A House Energy and Commerce Committee White Paper on implementation issues with the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) was released last week. Comments on RFS-related issues are due by July 26.

This Week’s Hearings:

  • Tuesday, July 16: The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will explore how the domestic oil boom is affecting fuel prices, as well as restructuring the refining industry and fuel distribution system.
  • Wednesday, July 17: The House Natural Resources Committee will hold an oversight hearing on the Interior Department’s operations, management, and rulemakings. Secretary Sally Jewell will testify.
  • Thursday, July 18: The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will receive testimony on the current state of clean energy financing.

Regulatory Activity

Pipelines

The Gas Pipeline Advisory Committee and the Liquid Pipeline Advisory Committee will host a joint meeting on August 8-9 in Arlington, Virginia. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has issued an advisory bulletin to owners and operators of gas and hazardous liquid pipelines regarding the potential for damage from severe flooding and actions that should be considered to ensure pipeline integrity.

Steam Power Plants

The Environmental Protection Agency is extending the comment period for the proposed Effluent Limitations Guidelines and Standards for the Steam Electric Power Generating Point Source Category rule by 45 days, to September 20.
