Two More E. coli Illnesses Prompts Another Canadian Meat Recall

By Bill Marler on February 20, 2013
E. coli Canada

Matt McClure, Mr. E. coli at the Calgary Herald, reports tonight that frozen burgers now being recalled from Safeway stores across the western half of the country originated from the same Ontario plant that was at the center of a tainted meat outbreak just two months ago.  Officials at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said in late December that it had concluded its investigation into Cardinal Meat Specialists Limited and that all products associated with a cluster of five illnesses were off store shelves.  But now the federal agency has been forced to issue another alert after learning earlier this month of two more illnesses and finding more frozen burgers from the Brampton, Ontario plant that tested positive for a potentially-fatal bacteria.

Based on positive test results the CFIA said the new recall includes all product produced at the plant on the same day.
