Chinese bloggers : 60 million by end of 2006

By Kevin O'Keefe on May 7, 2006

Reuters reports there will be 60 million Chinese bloggers by the end of 2006.

Interesting stats in the Reuters report:

  • China is the world’s second-largest Internet market after the United States with more than 110 million users.
  • Currently 36.82 million blogs kept by 16 million people.
  • Number of Chinese bloggers is expected to hit 60 million by the end of this year.
  • The expected 60 million bloggers would account for more than half of China’s 110 million netizens.
  • The number of bloggers in China will hit 100 million by 2007.
  • Nine percent of Chinese bloggers write every day, 29 percent write once to three times a week, while 35 percent write four to six times a week.

It is China though, not the United States. The Communist Party monitors Internet discussion and has closed down some outspoken blogs.
