Law firm websites below average : Internet Standards Assessment Report

By Kevin O'Keefe on March 24, 2006

Comes as no surprise that law firm websites score below average for innovation, content and technology per a report from the Web Marketing Association.

The Internet Standards Assessment Report (ISAR) performed since 1997 provides industry benchmarks for Web site development and is based on data collected from 9,748 Web site evaluations. The report evaluates average scores in more than 80 industries to create defined benchmarks in seven categories, including design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.

Though law firms score above average in a couple of the categories, it’s disappointing to think law firms which have so much to gain by sharing helpful information with their target audience, lag behind so many other industries as to content.

William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association said “The top legal Web sites are more than just brochureware. They provide meaningful industry news and analysis within their various practice areas. Online is one of the best ways a law firm can market itself without appearing to do so.”

Law firm blogs are becoming more popular because on this industry news and analysis. And better than websites, lawyers, as opposed to marketing staff, find it easy to add content to blogs without spending a lot of time.
