As part of the European Green Deal and the Fit for 55 legislative package, the European Commission introduced in July 2021 a legislative proposal for a recast of the Energy Taxation Directive. The amendments are intended to assist the EU in meeting its climate policy objectives, including the 55% net emission reduction target by 2030
