Sports Injury and Concussion Seminar

On Friday, December 10, 2004 the Brain Injury Association of New York State sponsored a sportsmen concussion symposium entitled “Heading for the Future: Managing Sports Injury and Concussion.” (PDF) The symposium brought together some of the leading experts on concussion and sports in America. Giving the keynote remarks was James P. Kelly, M.D. co-author of the American Academy of Neurology Guidelines for Concussion. Other speakers included Barry Jordan, M.D., MPH who spoke on chronic traumatic brain injury in sports and Michael W. Collins, Ph.D. who’s written some of the most updated research on concussion in sports. Pat LaFontaine, former NHL hockey player and Hall of Fame member. Mr. LaFontaine enjoyed an outstanding fifteen year career in the NHL before being sidelined, after suffering a post-concussion syndrome.
