SARASOTA COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported a pedestrian was struck and killed Saturday evening on US 41 in Nokomis.
The crash began as a Sport utility Vehicle was traveling northbound on US 41 in Nokomis driven by a 78-year-old man from Hudsonville Michigan, with a 78-year-old female passenger, approaching the intersection of Collins Road.
As the SUV traveled north a 67-year-old man from Sarasota was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of US 41 on foot at the intersection of Collins Road and US 41.
At 7:07 PM the pedestrian entered the path of the oncoming SUV, and the driver of the Sport Utility Vehicle failed to avoid a collision.
The front of the SUV crashed into the pedestrian at speed fatally injuring him.
Emergency Medical Personal responded to the accident and pronounced the man deceased at the scene of the crash.
Neither the driver of the SUV nor his passenger were injured in the crash.
