Stoicism 101 – A Practical Guide For Entrepreneurs. Stoicism is more of a practical guide to living well than it is an arcane philosophical endeavor. The philosophy you are taught in institutes of higher education may be a worthwhile academic pursuit; but, I was no more prepared to live a good life when I left college than I was 30 years later as I entered middle age. In fact, this little article is probably all you need to guide you in the basic concepts of living a good and successful life. Assume that bad stuff is going to happen, and prepare for it. Remember, that there isn’t really anything bad or good. Our perceptions create that illusion. We get to decide. So, get better at deciding. Finally, we can’t control events, or other people, or whether we make a lot of money, or whether we choose a good spouse, or anything else. Why do we waste so much time trying? Want to be good? Be good. Stop talking about it. Want to stop grieving over a loss? Stop grieving. Quit annoying others about it. Want to be a successful lawyer? Adjust your attitude. And, be a successful lawyer. Life is easy. Not obsessing over it is hard.
