Joint regulatory taskforce to tackle poor practice in motor finance claims

On 6 May 2026, the Financial Conduct Authority announced the establishment of a joint regulatory taskforce to tackle the poor handling of motor finance claims by some claims management companies (CMCs) and law firms. The taskforce comprises of the FCA, Solicitors Regulation Authority, Information Commissioner’s Office and Advertising Standards Authority. The taskforce will run for a minimum of 6 months followed by a review of progress. Among other things the taskforce will focus on misleading advertising, unreasonable exit fees and unauthorised lead generation.
