I was quoted by the Huntsville Business Journal (HBJ) in a recent article about the metro area’s economy, which relies heavily on government contract work, and why it may be positioned for even more federal growth. Currently, the Huntsville area market relies on what I called its “three major pillars” of federal contract work stemming from NASA, Redstone Arsenal and the FBI.
One of the changes at the national level that could have an impact on Huntsville, I told the HBJ, is an adjustment to the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) system.
“Rewriting the FAR could change how contractors interact with the federal government,” I explained. “That will affect everyone, whether you are in Washington or Huntsville.”
On the day the article published, the White House officially announced the move of the U.S. Space Command from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, which is another factor that I said could have far-reaching implications, as defense companies and others would likely move to be nearby.
