Everything. I have been practicing law for 50 years. I have been creating files and data on computers for over 30 years. I can still find, inside of 5 minutes, any one of those files. How? By using the best free tool I have ever used, Everything. This cool little search tool can find any file on your computer just by name. If you want to find the Jones file from 1995, just type Jones in the search box, and instantly see a list of every file among the thousands of files you have with the name Jones in the title. In the early days, when naming files was restricted to a few characters, this is less useful. But, for many years, we have been able to ascribe long names to files, and each of us has our own technique for doing this. I don’t bother with Windows search, or any other method; although, I still can find a folder using File Explorer, and then locate a file within that folder. But, when I am looking for a needle in a haystack, I just type in some search words in the Everything search box, and scroll through until I find the file I want. This useful tool is free, from Softonic, and is an essential tool for any lawyer who needs to find old files fast.
