Let’s face it. There is a holiday defined for every day of the year. Some days have the luxury of being designated with multiple days of note. Well, today is World Backup Day. Who knew? To commemorate the event, Naked Security has a post with five data recovery tips. It has some excellent advice, especially “The only backup you will ever regret is the one you didn’t make.”

  1. Decide which data is critical, and protect it properly
  2. Remember the 3-2-1 principle
  3. Don’t leave backups where cybercrooks can find them
  4. Don’t make backups that everyone can read
  5. Learn how to do the “restore” part of the process

The bonus tip is: Don’t put it off until tomorrow. With the rapid rise of ransomware attacks, having a good backup is your first line of defense. You may be able to avoid the ransom payment by just restoring your data from a good backup. Besides having a good backup, consider using an EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) solution to help combat ransomware.
