It is the tenor of the times, that someone is offended by just about anything. Snowflakes on college campuses need zones in which no one will utter words or phrases that upset them, or challenge their beliefs. Gentle souls who are easily offended by political discourse that they disagree with, seek to cancel or silence opposing beliefs. Small minorities think they have the right to prevent sports teams from choosing, or keeping, nicknames that, in the current climate, ruffle feathers of a tribe of Indians who no longer roam the prairies; but, instead, take advantage of the profits of gambling entities made possible by a system that encourages profit. Politicians, and sports personalities, and others, who signal their alleged virtue by pretending to be woke and inclusive, and caring about the condition of the less fortunate, all while earning millions of capitalist dollars playing a game. The hypocrisy in our culture is stunning in its breadth, so stunning that it makes fables like “The Emperor Has No Clothes” seem tame by comparison.
