ALTUS, AR – A driver was killed when his truck was involved in a collision with another 18-wheeler in Johnson County Friday morning.

According to River Valley Now, the incident occurred on Interstate 40 east between mile markers 50 and 51 near Altus at about 7:43 a.m.

Investigators with the Arkansas State Police determined that the driver of a Peterbilt going east on I-40 veered off the roadway into the grass on the shoulder, then re-entered the eastbound lanes at a slow rate of speed.  The driver of an eastbound Kenworth 18-wheeler did not realize the Peterbilt was going at slow speed and slammed into the back of the truck, state troopers said.
