I don’t make a habit of reading advice columnists; but, Carolyn Hax is a level headed, bright, insightful voice, and I occasionally read her responses. The letter attached was from a reader who wanted to know “how to choose love?” when she found her family life boring, and, in her words, “transactional”. Whining about our situations is a classic case of allowing events and other people to control our actions and emotions. It all reminds me of the guy who went to great lengths to see Doctors, Psychiatrists, and other professionals to seek help with a nail biting problem. They gave him creams, shots, pills and a host of remedies, none of which worked. Finally, he went to a psychiatrist who told him that the solution was simple. “Stop biting your nails”. So, to Ms. “How do I choose love”, the answer is equally simple. Choose love. Next question.
