On October 15, 2020, Boca Raton, FL-based life settlement holding company Emergent Capital, Inc. filed a petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware (Case 20-12602). The company filed the prenegotiated Chapter 11 with the support of a majority of its secured and unsecured noteholders. The company reports $175.1 million in assets and $115.9 million in liabilities.
