Sorry, people. You can’t do this with an iPhone. But, I can plug my Galaxy Note 10+ into any big screen monitor with an HDMI connection, and, instantly the phone shows up on the big screen. But, even better, the DeX mode is a desktop version of the phone software, and works like a full function Android computer. Use the phone as a mouse, and add a bluetooth keyboard, and voila, functioning computer. You can connect to a Mac; but, you have to have a Galaxy phone. I carry a Micro USB to HDMI adapter everywhere, so I can compute and watch videos and movies and TV on any big screen.
