BRADENTON FLORIDA – FHP has announced two people lost their lives after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a sport utility vehicle.
The fatal crash happened Sunday night as a 30 year old motorcyclist from Venice was riding with a 24 year old woman from Nokomis as a passenger.
The motorcycle was northbound on US 41 approaching the intersection with Bayshore Road.
As the motorcycle was approaching from the south, a 46 year old woman driving a sport utility vehicle was heading south on Bayshore Road approaching the intersection with US 41.
At 9:47 PM, the driver of the sport utility attempted to turn left from Bayshore Road onto US 41, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The left front of the SUV crashed into the right side of the motorcycle.
Neither the driver of the motorcycle or the passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, and both died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the sport utility vehicle was seriously injured in the accident as well.
Florida Highway Patrol has stated the crash remains under investigation.
