Remote Working May Complicate Cyberinsurance Claims – Are You Covered?

By Sharon Nelson on April 30, 2020

Dark Reading posted on April 27 that remote working may complicate cyberinsurance claims.

Cyberinsurance policies often make a distinction between computer hardware owned by the insured company and computer hardware or other devices owned by company employees. Policies may limit or exclude coverage for computer hardware that it is not owned by the named insured. The insurance policy may also have other requirements related to the use of personal devices by employees, sometimes requiring a formal written policy to address the use of such devices.

What if your employees and their use of personal devices are responsible for a data breach or other cyber incident? There may (and I emphasize may) not be coverage for damages resulting from the use of personal devices – or home networks,

The bottom line is that you may not have reviewed your insurance policy with this thought in mind. Put aside some time to check this out – and to confirm with your insurer that would indeed cover your damages.
