FireEye is always dependably good at posting useful infographics. This one is packed full of great information, much of which does not seem to be widely known. Some of the threats we’ve all discussed for a long time are abating, while others are fairly new and gaining steam.
For instance, there were 22% fewer attachment-based email attacks last year and 31% more URL-based attacks. Email continues to be the vector where 90% of attacks begin. 35% of phishing emails and URLs used HTTPS – which is not as secure as you may have thought.
Some phishing attacks can now recognize whether they are being accessed by a security engine or a person – and they wait for a person to click on a link or attachment to deliver their malicious payload.
Microsoft, Netflix and Free Score 360 were among the top trusted brands impersonated by phishers to gain access or credentials in 2018.
