Maplewood New Jersey police recently had to break up a fight involving teens at a local park.
The violent altercation occurred shortly after the township’s annual street festival, known as MayFest, came to an end. According to law enforcement, between 150 and 200 teenagers left the festival just after 5:00 p.m. and went to DeHart Park. DeHart Park is roughly six blocks away from the site of Maplewood NJ street festival.
Maplewood officers went to the park after authorities got calls about a possible disturbance in the area. When Maplewood NJ cops arrived at the scene, they worked quickly to get the crowd of teenagers to disperse.
The Maplewood Police Department was assisted by police officers from Irvington, Millburn, South Orange, Springfield, and Union, in addition to the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
Cops reportedly had to break up a fight involving some of the minors. At this time, authorities do not know what might have prompted the juveniles to get into the violent altercation.
Police also intervened in another fight that occurred near the border separating Maplewood from Irvington.
Maplewood NJ police did not place any juveniles under arrest, but they did arrest a 19-year-old Newark male accused of robbing a young boy at the park.
