ArmyTimes.com reports that troops in Iraq and other locations have tried to avoid being pulled out of combat units by cheating on problem-solving tests that are used to spot traumatic brain-injury problems. According to Air Force Lt. Col. Michael Jaffee of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center in Washington, D.C., new tests have been sent to the troops late last month in an effort to prevent the cheating.
These tests are important because they are the military’s primary means of uncovering subtle signs of brain injuries from exposure to blasts. By cheating on these tests, a troop is at greater risk of suffering a second blast and greater harm to a possibly already injured brain.
