Brain Damaged For 10 Years, Firefighter Makes Astounding Recovery

I read an encouraging story today on CNN about a firefighter who suffered a traumatic brain injury 10 years ago, and just began to speak again. the firefighter, Donald Herbert, asked to speak to his wife and had thought he had only been away for three months. Dr. Rose Lynn Sherr of New York University Medical Center said when patients recover from brain injuries, they usually do so within two or three years. “It’s almost unheard of after 10 years,” she said, “but sometimes things do happen and people suddenly improve and we don’t understand why.”
