This year The Missouri Bar Citizenship Education program is offering three professional development workshops for teachers that you won’t want to miss.
To facilitate registration and promotion of these events, a new landing page for Citizenship Education events has been created at MissouriLawyersHelp.org. This Citizenship Education webpage hosts flyers for various training opportunities and the annual Show Me the Constitution competition, as well as online registration links when available.
Street Law will be held virtually March 2, and it will focus on helping teachers even better educate students on the federal courts and the Equal Protection Clause under the 14th Amendment. This is offered at no cost to qualified participants.
The Show Me the Constitution mock constitutional hearing competition will be held on April 3 at the Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia. Students will present their ideas on the year’s topics to a panel of judges, lawyers, and government officials. The first, second, and third-place winning schools will be awarded $1,000, $750, and $500, respectively, for civic education materials. Topics this year include prayer at the 50-yard line, the legitimacy of the U.S. Supreme Court, and the validity of Miranda rights.
Two Summer Institutes are scheduled June 19-21 and June 21-23 in Jefferson City. These workshops provide teachers with classroom materials and ways to generate critical thinking among their students. These programs are offered at no cost to qualified participants.
