Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) have introduced the Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act of 2022 in the United States Senate.  Representative Doris Matsui (D‑CA6) has introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.  The bill would classify broadband internet access service as a telecommunications service regulated under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.  The intent is to reinstate the net neutrality regime adopted by the Federal Communication Commission under Chairman Tom Wheeler in 2015, which the agency removed under Chairman Ajit Pai in late 2017.  In 2019, the House of Representatives passed the Save the Internet Act, which similarly attempted to reverse the FCC’s 2017 action, but that legislation stalled in the Senate.
